Returning to work after successful treatment is probably the biggest jump a survivor will make.
If you were working before you diagnosis, it is important that you make a gradual return and don’t try to do too much. It can be tempting to pick up where you left off as though nothing has happened, after all, you are cancer-free now. Try to resist and go at a steady pace to begin with.
- Pace yourself and notice what you can cope with and when you are ready to take on more
- Talk with managers and colleagues about managing your workload so that they understand what you are capable of
- Don’t be pressured into doing more than you feel able to do
- Make sure important people in your life and at work understand that you may still be struggling to cope both physically and emotionally and they need to understand and give you support.
