immunocompromised
Decrease in the ability of the patient to fight infection. After chemotherapy this could be due to a decrease in the white blood cell count.
indolent
Causing little or no problem or side effect to the patient.
inoperable
Surgery will not be possible. This could be due to a number of different factors. A cancer that is too close to vital structures (such as the heart) may be inoperable because of the risk of performing surgery. A cancer may be inoperable if there are too many sites (or metastasis) to allow removal of them all by surgery.
internal radiotherapy
Cancer treatment using either asolid, radioactive material close to or inside the tumour (brachytherapy), or a radioactive liquid, given either by mouth or as an injection into a vein (radionuclide treatment).
isotope
Radioactive substance that is made up of atoms that have a different weight to normal atoms.
