telangectasia
Widening or dilation of small blood vessels that causes small red marks on the skin or mucous membranes.
thoracic
To do with the chest area, including the lungs and heart.
thrombocytopaenia
A decrease in the number of platelets in the blood. Platelets help the blood to clot and prevent bleeding and bruising. Patients with thrombocytopaenia can bruise more easily or have a tendency to bleed from the nose or gums. Rarely, small groups of red-purple spots may appear on the skin because of small bleeding spots under the skin.
tomography
A special type of x-ray examination where the x-ray camera and film will move during the 'exposure'. This allows parts of the body to be blurred (like the ribs) while keeping other structures at a different level in focus (like the lungs). Tomography allows pictures to be taken of difficult to see structures. CT stands for computerised tomography, where the x-ray camera moves in a circle around the patient.
treatment field
The area of the body that will be treated during radiotherapy.
trunk
The body excluding the head and limbs.
tumour
Another term for cancer. Sometimes used when the cancer forms a lump or swelling.
