Former footballer Geoff Thomas will host a fundraising lunch and auction with Royal Marsden radiographer Richard Howard-Jones as he prepares to endure the 874-mile ride from Land’s End to John O’Groats to help raise money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign.
After his beloved bicycle ‘Gerty’ was badly burned during a huge fire at the hospital in January, Richard decided that he thought it would be a great idea to raise money for the charity and to promote healthy living.
He said: “Every year, we see thousands of patients who have the indomitable sense of living life to the full. As we work to rebuild the hospital it is these people that we keep in the forefront of our minds, so it was imperative that I rebuilt Gerty to help raise funds for this great hospital.”
A champagne and canapé lunch will set the scene for the launch of ‘Gerty’s tour’ at the Bowler Bar and Grill in Chelsea, followed by Geoff Thomas from the Geoff Thomas Foundation presiding over an auction of prizes, which include two nights in a Kenyan safari lodge and two weeks at a Canadian log cabin.
