The Royal Marsden Hospital has been highly commended for its high standards by a national patient authority.

The National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) announced that the hospital has scored an ‘excellent’ rating for its environment and quality of food. The NPSA’s annual Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) also stated the hospital’s privacy and dignity when dealing with patients is excellent.

Cally Palmer, Chief Executive for The Royal Marsden, said the results are a reflection on the hard work carried out by staff across the Trust.

She said: “The privacy and dignity of patients is one of our priorities and our success is due to professionalism and discretion of our dedicated staff.

“We strive to achieve the very highest standards in all areas of the hospital. We are delighted the inspection recognised our welcoming environment and excellent food.”

The hospital was assessed in the areas of the cleanliness of the patient environment (wards, rooms, waiting and reception areas), infection control, safety and security, hospital food, and the privacy and dignity awarded to patients.

There were also patient representatives from the hospital’s Patient and Carer Advisory Group who took part in the PEAT assessment.

Gary Burkill, Head of Facilities, said he was delighted with the results and added: “I would like to thank the staff and patient representatives who were involved in this assessment. Everyone worked so hard to make sure that we were awarded excellent in all the categories.”
