One of Surrey’s leading choirs is to put on a concert to raise money for The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign.
The evening will be a feast for all lovers of Bach as the programme features the composer’s most popular choral music. The concert takes place at 7.30pm on 28 June in the beautiful surroundings and superb acoustics of St Martin’s Church, Epsom.
Musical Director, Michael Stevenson, has invited soloists and other local musicians to join the choir to help make it a particularly memorable evening.
Bach’s ‘Magnificat’, movements from the Mass in B Minor and St John Passion, are being performed together with his motets ‘Der Geist’ and ‘Komm, Jesu komm’ and the Cantata ‘Jesus bleibet meine Freude’.
The Epsom Chamber Choir has chosen to support the charity because one of its members has been receiving treatment at the specialist NHS hospital for many years.
Beth Hill, Epsom Chamber Choir Chair, said: “One of our sopranos, Kate Drummond, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001. She had five years in remission, but last year was told her cancer is now incurable.
“Kate is a very keen Bach singer and requested that the Choir perform his works while she can still sing. So we’re keen to make this an extra special occasion by giving all the money raised through the event to The Royal Marsden, which does make such a difference to the lives of thousands of people living with cancer.”
