For the third year in a row The Royal Marsden has been rated as excellent by a national patient organisation following an annual inspection.
The National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) has announced that the Trust scored an ‘excellent’ rating at its sites in Sutton and Chelsea for the overall hospital environment, for the levels of privacy and dignity given to patients, and the quality of food.
The NPSA’s annual Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) also commended the Trust for its levels of cleanliness and infection control procedures and rates.
Patient experience
Shelley Dolan, Chief Nurse for The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, said “The results are an excellent example of the hard work carried out by all staff, clinical and non-clinical, across the Trust to ensure high standards are maintained.
She said: “Our patients’ experience is extremely important to us and enhances the overall care they receive. We are delighted that the inspection awarded us a rating of “excellent” for both our sites.”
Assessment
The Trust was assessed in the areas of the cleanliness of the patient environment (wards, rooms, waiting and reception areas), infection control, safety and security, hospital food, and the privacy and dignity awarded to patients.
Staff, including nurses, doctors and senior management, along with patient representatives from the hospital’s Patient and Carer Advisory Group took part in the PEAT assessment.
Gary Burkill, Head of Facilities, said: "I would like to thank the staff and patient representatives who were involved in this assessment. At The Royal Marsden we pride ourselves on excellent facilities and standards.”
