Patients have commended The Royal Marsden on its Outpatient Departments and the services they provide.

Respect and dignity

In the Care Quality Commission Outpatients Department Survey 2009, patients gave a score of 96 out of 100 for the level of respect and dignity they were given while being treated by staff, putting the hospital in the top 20% of NHS Trusts nationally.

Patients also scored The Royal Marsden highly for the amount of privacy they were given when being examined or treated, the choices of appointment times they were given and for the confidence they had in the staff examining or treating them.

The Royal Marsden was also rated in the top 20% of hospitals nationally for the information given to patients during their appointments, the tests and treatments they received and for the information provided to them on how to take new medications.

Patient questionnaire

Between July and October last year, the questionnaire was sent to patients who had recently attended outpatient departments nationally. Responses to the survey were received from 512 patients at The Royal Marsden.

Shelley Dolan, Chief Nurse, said: “I am delighted with these results. At The Royal Marsden we pride ourselves on giving our patients the very best care and treatment and our staff work extremely hard to ensure that patients have the best experience possible. The results from this survey show that this hard work and dedication from staff ensures that patients are getting the best services we can provide.”

Similar outpatient surveys were carried out in 2003 and 2004.

The Care Quality Commission is the independent regulator of health and adult social services in England.
